How to Assemble a Model Train

Model trains provide a hobby that delivers rewarding entertainment time after time. When it comes to assemble your setup, you might cringe or not know where to start. This how-to guide shows you how to assemble a model train in only a few simple steps.

  1. First: Pick your world

First, you need to decide where you to build your track. Unless you plan to pack your set away following every use, the area you pick needs to ensure a comfortable environment that is also safe for you and your set. Your choice of construction is wide open; perhaps you want a sandy beach terrain, a grassy valley or even just a smooth surface that is sturdy enough to house your set.

  2. Second: Planning and preparation

There is little else that is worse then beginning your assembling only to discover that you made a mistake and have to take it all apart piece by piece. Grab a sheet of paper, and sketch a rough plan of how you want to assemble the track, what you want it to look like and where each piece is to go. Once you have planned the assembly, places the pieces in their place without assembling them. This ensures you can see if it is going to fit nicely or tells you that you need to change a few things.

  3. Third: Work downhill

Start with the trickiest or hardest piece, and work downhill. Setting up a track is easy if you take your time and think about your actions. Leaving something like a bridge or a sharp corner until last may prove difficult when trying to fit it in place.

  4. Fourth: Finish up

Once you have all the track assembled, you just need to set up your locomotive by placing it on the track and connecting whatever carriages you may have with it. After that, it is a simple case of enjoying your perfectly assembled track.
